A Local Story

Kitson Hall has been at the heart of Barnes community life for nearly a century. It was officially opened in spring 1927, with a message of support from the Duke of York, and was created to serve as the parish hall for St Mary’s Church Barnes.

What makes the hall especially unique is that it was designed by Annabel Dott, the Rector’s wife, who was also a pioneering builder. Annabel’s architectural style can still be seen in Kitson Hall, with features such as stone mullioned windows and a covered veranda (“stoep”), giving the hall both warmth and distinctive character (Magnificent Women profile).

Over the years, the hall has hosted everything from school plays, concerts, and dance classes to wedding receptions, children’s parties, and community fairs.

Today it is part of the Barnes Green Conservation Area and has been highlighted as a Building of Townscape Merit, reflecting its value to the local landscape and history.

Hello from AJ

Your first point of contact for bookings and enquiries.

I’m AJ, the Hall Manager here at Kitson Hall. I work part-time managing bookings and keeping the hall running smoothly. Since taking on the role, I’ve modernised our system — moving from a manual calendar to a fully online booking process, refreshed our access guides and videos, and I’m the person at the other end of your emails and phone calls.

My aim is to make hiring Kitson Hall as simple, welcoming, and stress-free as possible, so that you can focus on your class, celebration, or event.
